1st Draft: Doublet page spread

i can't imagine this page with a heading or a quote and i didn't know where to it. i wanted the reader to open this page and have photos of their favourite artist that hey can cut out and have as a poster but i also wanted them to have knowledge of the artist in an informal way. the magazine is indie and i don't want it to be all serious and high like most fashion magazines with the language but i do want it to look high standard.

What has been a success? What looks good?
again the pictures were the most suessful in this page, the shoots are expressed with different facial moods showing the characters personality.

1st Draft: Content page

i made this page from looking at different indie, rock magazines. i didn't want it to look messy or 'busy' so i tried to construct everything. it looks a bit plain and not how i want it to but that will change.

What has been a success? What looks good?

the positive thing about the content page is the amount of pictures i had and ready for it. From previous looks at other magazines with my style of genre; it showed a lot of pictures most of them token in concerts or gigs and most of them took in dark lighting to set the mood of 'danger, wild and venturous' this is ideal for the target audience to. If it was a high standard magazine then it would not have as much pictures or set in dark lighting's like a gig.  But their target audience are different from my mine which is people who like to have a balance of both pictures and text. What impact has your research had on the outcome of your 1st draft?
My first draft came from different indie genre magazines, i took inspiration from their different section and style of the magazine and used it in mine. F or example 'the editors letter' was token from the 'Kerrang' magazine and so was the idea of having the front cover of the magazine on the content page. having token those inspiration; the reason why i have done them is because when i looked at the content page those where the thing i liked the most and that made an impression. the editors letter had an impact of how connecting with the audience and the audience being acknowledged of the kind of magazine from the editor. having the front cover on the content page helps the target audience by not having to go back and forth between the pages.

What do you now need to do to improve your magazine?

what i need to improve on is the layout of the content page. I need to make sure that it looks like the same standard as the rest of the pages. i think the font could be changed to something else to fit the page and genre.

1st Draft: Front Cover

This is my 1st draft front cover page. i got inspired by the NME cover of Florence and the machine because of the image am working with. I also love the simplicity of the indie magazine covers. I want my magazine to look clean and simple because it looks more high standard and appealing to my target audience. I found this picture and most of the shoots hard to edit because i didn't leave any empty space at the top for a masthead.

What has been a success? What looks good?

I think the picture looks good the most, because it is bold and has a unique contrast of color. (the pale face, black hair and blue background) I love the color scheme on the cover because i think it goes great with tone of the image; anything too bright would ruin the look of the cover and the magazine genre.

What impact has your research had on the outcome of your 1st draft?

The inspiration i got for my first draft came from magazines such as 'NME', 'Billboard' and some fashion magazines which show quality of the magazine but simply. These magazines showed me how important the main image has to be to benefit the whole cover itself. From that i think having a good image can sell a magazine more than the words, so that is how i tried to make my magazine look. Quality and Premium.

What do you now need to do to improve your magazine?

I think i need to work more on the top part of the cover (masthead) and also the sub-heading because they look a bit of key and they look a bit crap.The main sub heading is a bit out of place from everything else, it looks like something that would come out from a gossip magazine instead.

analysing the double page spreads give me an idea of what i want mine to look like. i learned a lot while looking for through some magazine double pages, things like bold, eye-catching fonts that grabs the readers attention. and the good use of large, famous pictures of the artists. i like the different types of the actual article some which are Q and A, and other are interview or stories. i know understand that most double pages are more about the artists who fit perfectly at the magazine genre and type. i also find it that the audience who prefer to read the double page spread because they can share it with their friends or someone.

knowing how important the content page makes me as an editor to make it the best. readers should find all most everything in this page. the amount of information on the content page to me shows how much this magazine is and how much quality they have. some content page have a lot more pictures than information n details and some do the opposite, this also shows you what kind of genre the music magazine is and what kind of target audience they have or target. this page makes the reader find things more easily and straight forward.

the front cover is the most important part of a magazine. always have a big, large image, a masthead and puffs and cover lines. most magazine have there main image in a direct mode of address to the audience, which always attracts the readers because it is most of the time there someone they like or role model. magazines are disturbed almost everywhere so having a good quality front cover will help your one to be the best.
